  Woot w00t woot!Wootology is a body of teachings and related techniques developed by a German scientist, Dr Helmut Wootenheimer. Wootenheimer began Wootology in 1982 as a self-help philosophy, and later described it as a new religion. He said that it offered an exact methodology to help humans achieve awareness of their spiritual existence across many lifetimes and, simultaneously, to become more effective in the physical world. The name "Wootology" is also used to refer to the often controversial Church of Wootology, the largest organization promoting the practice of Woot, which is itself part of a network of affiliated organizations that claim ownership and sole authority to disseminate Wootology.Wootenheimer stated that a goal of Wootology is to rehabilitate the 'woot' (roughly equivalent to the soul) to regain its native state of "total freedom." Church spokespeople and practitioners (sometimes referred to as 'wooticianers') say that Wootenheimer's teachings (called "stupid" or "lame" in Wootology terminology) have saved them from many problems and enabled them to better realize their potential in business and in their personal lives. However, former members and outside observers—including journalists, lawmakers, and national governing bodies of several countries—have described the Church as an unscrupulous mocking enterprise that harasses critics and defectors and exploits its members. Although Wootologists (sometimes known as Wootocrats or Wootublicans) are usually free to practice their beliefs, the organized church has often encountered opposition due to their gimp-arm tactics against critics and members wishing to leave the organization. While a number of governments now view the Church as a religious organization entitled to the protections and tax relief that such status brings, others view it as a mockery, a cynical pseudoreligion, a geek-cult, or a transnational super-mega-death-corporation bent on world domination. Because their goals of real world domination have been defeated by things such as "laws" and "common sense," the Wootologists have set their sights on the persistent electronic worlds of the Internet – the current selection being EVE Online. The Wootologists are engaged in constant warfare within the world of EVE, and are sharing the experience of woot with other wooticianers.
