Single Parenting

The Single Parent

Heroes live among us every day. Clark Kent disguised himself as super man, Spider man was disguised as Peter Parker, while the incredible hulk was secretly known as David Banner. These heroes single handedly saved lives, fought criminals and made the world a safer place to live. Just imagine what the real world would be like if these heroes really existed.
Well, there are heroes among us who don’t literally fly, swing from building to building or pick up cars. These are they who work hard every day to provide for a child that may some day be our next president. They even take a second job to make sure their child gets a quality education. Some will work and go to school to give their children a future of hope to look forward to.
Society today has looked past our real life heroes and has not really given them the recognition they so deserve. Yet these are they who show true love and commitment to raise a child by themselves.
Being a single parent takes courage and determination. It takes more character to do such great task than to spend six years pursuing a college degree. This writer is of the opinion that strength can come out of weakness, and single parenting is strength stronger than the weakness of the lack of a second parent.
I speak these words not for those who carelessly have become a single because of their foolish choices or irresponsible lifestyles. But there are those who have found themselves left with a child by a man who walked off yet promised them the world.
These are both men and women, although we have made it appear as if only women are struggling with this great task. There are many, many committed single fathers who are rolling up there sleeves and are saying, “I can do this!”
I do not believe that a child should be raised by one parent. Yet on the other hand I do believe that we all find ourselves lacking something in our lives and doing what we have to in order to survive and make up the difference. It takes more guts, knowledge and wisdom for one person to do a two person job, only because the second person failed to do their part. This is commendable heroism in the truest sense.
Some have passed their children on to their parents and have selfishly moved on to live their own lives. Yet, there are those who refuse to throw their children off on others and have decided to raise their children the best they know how.
Let us not believe the statistics concerning children of single parents, but let us defy them. Let us Believe, that our children can be loved, and raised properly. Know that there is a greater reward down the road. For when we invest in them now, they will invest in us, when we can no longer walk and find ourselves once again needing someone to care for us.
There are three groups of people God will defend: The poor, the widow and the fatherless (single parent). These are the rejected, the scorned, the abused, and the outcast. For if you do them harm, God will Judge you severely. For God is their lawyer and their righteous judge. He will defend and protect them. Therefore, it will be wise for you to stand on his side and do the same.
As a single parent you don’t have time to feel sorry for yourself. Keep your child in mind and focus on your mission as a parent. Let not discouragement win, and determine to do it with or without the second parent. God has given you everything you need to complete your mission.
You may meet your knight in shining armor or your queen of the Nile, but until that day arrives, you have the greatest and most honorable job in the world, the great job of parenting. Love it, embrace it and you will reap greater rewards than all your pain and struggle.
